Advanced Metering Infrastructure:

AMI is one use of wireless mesh technology that provides substantial cost savings. The most obvious benefit invloves reduction in expenses for staff and vehicles needed to read meters manually. But there are many other benefits including the ability to:

  •     • Monitor Daily Demand
  •     • Implement Conservation Programs
  •     • Create Usage Profiles By Time Of Day
  •     • More Quickly Detect Leaks And Outages

The recapture of lost revenue and reduction of expenses by using the lastest techology to replace degrading systems with a fixed-based network. The new meters are fitted with meter interface units which send the reading to the community-wide wireless mesh network. The mesh then routes the traffic to the utility's data center where the server passes the readings along to the utilities billing system.

The CCA provides funding for design and build-out of the wirelless breoadband network and the replacement of all city owned meters with new AMI technology. Using the tax exempt status, the CCA obtains the lowest rates available with fixed rates up to 20-year terms.

The role that AMI plays in metering and meter reading cannot be overemphasized. Frequently, we find that cost savings and increased revenues generated by improving the effficiencies of the local utilities quite often can pay for the entire infrastructure needed to provide the services mentioned above.
